The Fourth World Congress on Microwave and Radio Frequency Applications

7-11 November, 2004
Austin, Texas, USA

The Microwave Working Group, Ltd. (MWG) organized its 4th World Congress (4WC) held in Austin, Texas, USA on 7-12 November, 2004, in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The AIChE annual meetings typically draw over 4,000 attendees. Attendees registering for 4WC were able to attend the AIChE sessions and vice versa. This afforded the microwave heating community an exciting opportunity to present the latest in microwave (MW) and radio frequency (RF) technology to a broader spectrum of researchers, process developers and potential users.

Technical Program

The 4WC Technical Program included 3-1/2 days of concurrent sessions encompassing many areas of MW and RF research and development, as well as sessions on industrial applications. Over 165 abstracts from throughout the international microwave and RF community were presented at the conference. The following topics are highlighted in the program:

Materials Processing of Ceramics, Polymers, Glass & Minerals
Waste Processing and Remediation
Semiconductor and Microelectronics Fabrication
MW & RF Applications - Case Histories
Systems Architecture and Design
Application Economics and Productivity
Organic Chemistry
Inorganic Chemistry
Biochemistry and Biomedical Applications
Dielectric Property Measurements and Techniques
Modeling and Material Interactions
Plasma Processing
Safety, Bioeffects and Regulatory Issues
Microwave Processing in Single Mode Cavities

A stand-alone poster session provided an intimate setting for undistracted interaction with the authors.

Short Courses

A series of full-day concurrent short courses were presented by leading experts in microwave and RF processing technologies.

Registration and Lodging

Full Meeting Fees: $570 (until 01-Oct); $620 (until 01-Nov); $660 (on-site)

Persons registering for the 4th World Congress received the Advance Abstract Book and admission to the Wednesday evening reception and barbeque. All 4WC registrants also had full access to other topical sessions of the AIChE annual meeting.

Reservations for local conference hotels may be made directly through AIChE by submitting the Housing form. Click here for a map of the Austin downtown area showing hotel locations.

Exhibition and Technology Fair

The AIChE/Microwave World Congress Fall Showcase provided a unique opportunity to promote products and services to a wide audience of scientists, engineers and end-users who are or potentially will be involved with microwave and RF applications technologies. Held in conjunction with the AIChE annual exhibition, the attendance of 4,000-5,000 technologists easily surpassed all previous microwave conference exhibitions.

The Showcase began early Sunday afternoon and continued through Wednesday. Receptions and focused sessions were scheduled to encourage attendees to visit the exhibition. Standard booths started at 10 ft. x 10 ft., and the base fee of $1650 included two full conference registrations. For more information, please contact:
